Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived at the Calcutta High Court on Thursday dressed in a lawyer’s gown, drawing significant public and media attention. The Trinamool Congress leader was accompanied by party leaders and legal representatives as speculation grew over her possible appearance in connection with a post-poll violence case linked to the party.
Mamata Banerjee was seen entering the High Court premises alongside Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha MP Kalyan Banerjee and his son Shirshanya Bandopadhyay, both of whom are advocates. TMC leader and lawyer Baiswanor Chatterjee was also present with the group during the visit. The unusual appearance of the senior political leader in legal attire quickly became a major talking point across political and legal circles.
According to sources, Banerjee was likely to participate in proceedings related to a post-poll violence case filed by the Trinamool Congress. While no official confirmation regarding her direct legal role had been issued immediately, her presence at the High Court in advocate attire fuelled speculation that she intended to personally engage in arguments or observe proceedings closely.

The case is linked to allegations of violence following the recent elections in West Bengal, an issue that has remained politically sensitive and legally contested. Political parties in the state have repeatedly accused each other of intimidation, attacks, and clashes after election results, leading to multiple petitions and court interventions over law and order concerns.
Mamata Banerjee’s appearance in court also carried symbolic political significance, with supporters viewing it as a show of direct involvement in legal and political battles concerning her party. The development comes at a time when tensions between the ruling BJP government in the state and the Trinamool Congress continue to remain high across several issues.
Security arrangements around the High Court premises were heightened due to the presence of senior political figures and supporters. Further details regarding the proceedings and Banerjee’s exact role in the matter are expected to emerge as the hearing progresses and official statements are issued by the parties involved.
