All India Trinamool Congress Takes Disciplinary Action, Suspends 3 Spokespersons

TMC suspends three spokespersons after post-defeat remarks.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday suspended three of its spokespersons for six years over alleged anti-party remarks made in the aftermath of the party’s defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections. The decision marks a significant disciplinary action within the party as it responds to internal criticism following the electoral setback.

According to an official statement, spokespersons Kohinoor Majumdar, Riju Dutta and Kartik Ghosh were suspended for allegedly violating party discipline. The action was taken after the party’s disciplinary committee reviewed complaints regarding their public comments against the leadership and organisational functioning.

The suspensions come days after the party issued show-cause notices to five spokespersons for criticising the leadership and campaign strategy following the election results. The notices were issued by TMC MP Derek O'Brien, who is part of the party’s disciplinary committee, and the individuals were asked to explain their remarks within 24 hours.

In the recently concluded Assembly elections, the TMC suffered a major setback, winning 80 seats in the 294-member House, while the Bharatiya Janata Party emerged with a dominant 207 seats. Party leaders have said that some spokespersons publicly questioned the leadership’s functioning and election strategy in both media interactions and social media posts following the defeat.

One of the suspended spokespersons, Kohinoor Majumdar, had reportedly criticised internal communication within the party, stating that leaders often faced delays in meeting senior figures, including TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. Party insiders say the comments were viewed as a breach of organisational discipline.

The disciplinary action reflects growing internal scrutiny within the TMC as it attempts to reassess its strategy after the election results, while also sending a strong signal against public dissent within the party ranks.
