Leaders Express Hope as Assam Enters New Development Phase Under Sarma Government

NDA marks third straight state victory.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Tuesday expressed strong optimism over Assam’s future development trajectory as the newly formed BJP-led government took office for a third consecutive term in the state, with Himanta Biswa Sarma sworn in as Chief Minister for a second straight tenure.

The swearing-in ceremony marked a significant political milestone, with Sarma officially assuming charge alongside four newly inducted ministers. Those who took oath included former Union Minister Rameswar Teli, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president Atul Bora, United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) leader Charan Boro, and senior BJP leader Ajanta Neog. The event underscored the continued strength of the BJP-led NDA alliance in the state.

The ceremony was attended by several high-profile national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Chief Ministers and representatives from 22 NDA-ruled states were also present, highlighting the political significance of the event at the national level.

Union Minister Chirag Paswan praised Sarma’s leadership, stating that his governance aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of accelerated development.

Other chief ministers also voiced support and optimism. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the mandate as a reflection of public trust in the government’s work, while Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said the re-election represented a “historical message” of confidence in development-driven governance. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, and Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also extended similar wishes, highlighting continuity in Assam’s development model under the BJP-led administration.

Leaders from allied parties and other political representatives, including NCP MP Praful Patel and UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, also congratulated the new government, expressing hope that Assam would further strengthen its growth momentum in the coming years.

With this oath-taking, Himanta Biswa Sarma begins his second consecutive term as Chief Minister since first taking office in 2021.
