Karnataka BJP, JD(S) To Form Coordination Panel Ahead Of Polls
BJP-JD(S) alliance gears up for upcoming Karnataka polls.
The BJP and Janata Dal (Secular) are set to establish a coordination committee to strengthen cooperation between the two parties ahead of upcoming elections in Karnataka, BJP state president B.Y. Vijayendra said on Friday. The announcement followed his meeting with Union Minister and JD(S) state president H.D. Kumaraswamy in Bengaluru, where the leaders discussed political developments and future strategies.
The meeting focused on strengthening the BJP-JD(S) alliance, preparations for upcoming bye-elections and ways to coordinate efforts against the ruling Congress government in the state. Vijayendra said both parties discussed the need for a united approach to address political challenges and work together in future electoral battles.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Vijayendra accused the Congress government of being “anti-farmer, anti-people and corrupt” and said the alliance would decide its future course of action against the state government. He said the discussions with Kumaraswamy were positive and aimed at improving coordination between the two parties.

The proposed BJP-JD(S) coordination committee is expected to include senior leaders from both parties. Vijayendra said he, Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi would represent the BJP, while Kumaraswamy would finalise JD(S) members. He added that Kumaraswamy had initially suggested three members from each party and discussions were underway to keep the committee effective and focused.
The leaders also reviewed preparations for the upcoming bye-elections in the Hiriyur and Dharwad Assembly constituencies, along with elections to four Teachers’ and Graduates’ Constituencies. Vijayendra said the BJP has already announced candidates for the Teachers’ and Graduates’ seats and sought JD(S) support for the alliance candidates.
On seat-sharing discussions, Vijayendra said JD(S) had expressed interest in contesting the Hiriyur Assembly seat, while the BJP had conveyed its position. He said both parties were discussing the matter openly and that the final decision on seat allocation and candidates would be taken by the alliance’s national leadership. He also clarified that the formation of the coordination committee was not linked to the recent cross-voting issue but was a broader strategic decision aimed at strengthening the alliance.
