Kangana Backs Elected Governments In CJP Row
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut on Monday criticised the ongoing CJP protest, saying that an elected government has the authority to take decisions and urged protesters to contest elections if they want to shape policy. Her remarks came amid demonstrations in the national capital demanding accountability over issues raised by the group. Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Ranaut said the ongoing Monsoon Session provides an appropriate platform for discussing concerns and questioning the government.
She argued that parliamentary proceedings are meant for debate, scrutiny and accountability rather than disruptions or protests that create disorder. “Our parliamentary session is on — so that we can discuss all issues in detail, and the government is held accountable for everything. That is its purpose,” Ranaut said, according to news agency ANI. She added that issues should be raised inside the House through democratic discussions.
The BJP MP criticised the CJP’s protest action, saying that creating chaos was not the correct way to address grievances. She said representatives and groups should use established democratic channels, including Parliament, to put forward their demands and seek responses from the government. Ranaut further challenged those opposing government decisions to seek electoral support if they wanted to influence policy.

She said elected governments receive a mandate from people and have the responsibility to make decisions after coming to power. The comments came as thousands of CJP supporters gathered in Delhi as part of the group’s “Chalo Sansad” march. The protesters have been demanding action on issues including alleged failures in the education system and accountability over competitive examination paper leaks. The demonstration led to heightened security arrangements in central Delhi, with restrictions imposed in several areas around Parliament and other key locations.
Police stopped protesters from moving towards restricted areas, leading to clashes and disruptions during the march. The CJP protest has become a political flashpoint, with opposition parties questioning the government’s handling of the demonstration and demanding responses on the issues raised by protesters. The ruling party, however, has maintained that Parliament remains the appropriate forum for discussions on policy matters and public concerns.
Ranaut’s comments add to the ongoing political debate over the role of protests and parliamentary discussions in a democracy. While supporters of demonstrations argue that public movements help highlight issues outside formal institutions, the government and its allies have stressed the importance of legislative debate and constitutional processes.
