Gujarat Bypoll Result: BJP's Satendrabhai Patel Leads In Manjalpur
BJP builds commanding advantage in Manjalpur bypoll counting.
BJP candidate Satendrabhai "Satish" Patel has established a commanding lead in the Manjalpur Assembly by-election in Gujarat, according to the latest Election Commission trends. After nine rounds of counting, Patel had secured 49,631 votes, leading his nearest rival, Congress candidate Bhikhabhai Rabari, by more than 27,400 votes. The counting process began at 8:00 AM under tight security arrangements at Bhavan's School in Vadodara's Makarpura area.
Satish Patel, a former Vadodara Municipal Corporation councillor, has steadily widened his lead as counting progressed. The Bharatiya Janata Party fielded him to retain the seat, while the Congress nominated Bhikhabhai Rabari, a former Gujarat minister and the party's current state vice-president. Election officials have continued counting under strict monitoring, with multiple rounds still remaining before the final outcome is confirmed.
The by-election was conducted on July 30 following the death of senior BJP MLA and former Gujarat minister Yogesh Patel on June 2 after a prolonged illness. Yogesh Patel had represented the Manjalpur constituency for three consecutive terms in 2012, 2017 and 2022. Before that, he had also served as the MLA from the Raopura Assembly constituency, making him one of Vadodara's most prominent political figures.

Although the result will not affect the BJP's comfortable majority in the 182-member Gujarat Assembly, the contest has attracted considerable political attention. The Congress mounted an intensive campaign in an effort to make electoral gains in one of the BJP's long-standing urban strongholds. The bypoll recorded a voter turnout of 37.5 percent, reflecting relatively moderate participation by the electorate.
The Election Commission will formally declare the winner only after all 19 rounds of counting are completed and the final verification of votes is carried out. Until then, the figures remain official trends. If the current margin holds, Satish Patel is set to succeed the late Yogesh Patel as the Manjalpur MLA, reinforcing the BJP's dominance in the Vadodara region.
