Fadnavis Says Congress’ ‘Baseless’ Vote-Theft Claims Fuel Its Electoral Decline
Fadnavis slams Congress vote theft allegations without evidence.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis asserted that the Congress party's repeated allegations of vote theft and irregularities in the polling process, made without presenting any concrete evidence to the Election Commission of India or the judiciary, serve only to hasten its own series of electoral defeats. Delivering his remarks at a public event in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, he pointed out that such unsubstantiated claims erode public trust in the opposition and alienate voters who prioritize governance over conspiracy theories. Fadnavis maintained that this pattern of behavior reflects a deeper strategic failure within Congress leadership.
These observations come in the wake of Congress's dismal showing in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly elections, where the party managed to win just six seats, in stark contrast to the National Democratic Alliance's overwhelming triumph with 202 seats. The Chief Minister framed this result as a clear voter rebuke to the opposition's rhetoric, suggesting that the electorate is increasingly discerning and unwilling to endorse narratives detached from on-ground realities. He positioned the Bihar outcome as a preview of potential consequences for Congress in other states.
Fadnavis advised Congress to focus on re-establishing connections with the populace by championing legitimate issues that resonate with everyday concerns, such as development, employment, and infrastructure. He underscored that the country continues to place unwavering confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with citizens directly countering what he described as the opposition's manufactured falsehoods through their ballots. This sustained public support, according to Fadnavis, demonstrates the futility of opposition tactics rooted in denial rather than constructive criticism.

The Maharashtra Chief Minister issued a caution that unless Congress fundamentally revises its approach and messaging, it is poised to suffer comparable setbacks in the forthcoming local body elections within the state. He elaborated on the opportunistic nature of political alliances, noting that Congress leaders readily form partnerships whenever they perceive electoral advantage. Fadnavis reminded his audience that many parties currently positioned as adversaries were once allies in previous coalitions.
Further emphasizing the evolving landscape of Indian politics, Fadnavis highlighted that even in the absence of formal alliances, historical collaborations should inform mutual respect among political entities. He portrayed the current rivalries as temporary phases in a broader democratic process, where pragmatic coalitions remain essential for governance stability, while urging all sides to prioritize national interest over partisan gains.
