Elon Musk Unveils 'America Party' to Shake Up U.S. Politics
Tech Titan Targets Uniparty with New Political Movement
Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has launched a bold new political venture, the "America Party," aimed at dismantling what he calls the United States' "one-party system." The announcement, made on July 5, 2025, follows a public falling-out with President Donald Trump, with whom Musk clashed over a massive federal spending bill that Musk claims will balloon the national debt.
Musk, who led Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to cut federal spending, has now turned his sights on challenging lawmakers who supported the president's $3.4 trillion domestic agenda. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO took to X, his social media platform, to declare the formation of the America Party, promising to restore "freedom" to Americans disillusioned with the two-party system.
"When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy," Musk posted on X. "Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom."

The move comes after Musk conducted an X poll on Independence Day, asking whether users wanted "independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system." The poll garnered over 1.2 million responses, with a 2-to-1 majority favoring a new political party. Musk also shared a meme of a two-headed snake captioned "End the Uniparty," signaling his intent to disrupt the Republican-Democrat dominance.
A Strategic Play for 2026 and Beyond
Musk's strategy focuses on targeting vulnerable lawmakers in the 2026 midterms, particularly those who backed Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill." He has vowed to unseat Republicans who campaigned on fiscal restraint but voted for the legislation, which experts estimate will add $3.4 trillion to the U.S. deficit over a decade.
"They will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth," Musk declared, outlining a plan to focus on "2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts" to influence key votes in Congress.
The feud with Trump escalated when the president suggested deporting Musk, a U.S. citizen since 2002, and threatened to strip federal funding from his businesses. The remarks followed Musk's vocal criticism of the spending bill, which he labeled a path to "debt slavery."
Can the America Party Succeed?
The America Party's impact on the 2026 midterms and the 2028 presidential election remains uncertain. Historically, third-party efforts in the U.S. have struggled to break the two-party grip, often splitting votes and inadvertently aiding one major party over the other. Some X users have already compared Musk's move to Ross Perot's 1992 independent presidential run, which helped Bill Clinton defeat George H.W. Bush.
"You're pulling a Ross Perot, and I don't like it," one user commented on X.
Despite the skepticism, Musk's wealth, influence, and ownership of X give him a unique platform to mobilize support. Whether the America Party can reshape the political landscape or merely disrupt it remains to be seen, but Musk's latest venture promises to keep Washington on edge.
