Delhi's Weather Disrupts Air Travel: SpiceJet Responds Swiftly

SpiceJet has issued a travel advisory for passengers flying to and from Delhi

SpiceJet Airlines issued a fresh travel advisory on Wednesday for passengers traveling to and from Delhi, citing disruptions caused by heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions in the capital. The advisory, shared via the airline’s official social media channels, urged passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport, as delays and cancellations are expected due to low visibility and waterlogged roads. Delhi has been experiencing unseasonal downpours triggered by a low-pressure system over northern India, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which forecasts continued rain through Thursday.

The airline’s alert comes as Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport faces operational challenges, with reports of delayed takeoffs and landings. SpiceJet emphasized that safety remains its top priority, advising passengers to monitor real-time updates on flight schedules via its website or customer service channels. The IMD has also warned of potential traffic disruptions across Delhi-NCR due to waterlogging, particularly in low-lying areas, which could further complicate airport access. Other airlines, including IndiGo and Air India, have issued similar advisories, signaling widespread impact on aviation operations.

Heavy rainfall has caused significant disruptions in Delhi, with flooded roads, power outages, and slowed public transport reported across the city. The municipal authorities have deployed teams to clear drainage systems, but commuters are advised to plan for delays. For air travelers, the situation underscores the need for flexibility, as airlines adjust schedules to comply with safety protocols amid reduced visibility and runway challenges.

SpiceJet’s advisory reflects broader efforts by India’s aviation sector to manage weather-related disruptions, which have become more frequent due to shifting climate patterns. Passengers are encouraged to stay updated and allow extra time for travel to avoid inconvenience. As the city braces for more rain, airlines and authorities are working to minimize disruptions while prioritizing passenger safety and operational efficiency.
