Delhi Metro Fares Soar: New Rates Hit Commuters Today

Delhi Metro hikes ticket prices by up to Rs 4 starting Aug 25, 2025.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has implemented a fare hike effective from August 25, 2025, marking the first increase in ticket prices since 2017. The revision, announced via a post on X, introduces a nominal increase of Rs 1 to Rs 4 across all lines, with the Airport Express Line seeing a maximum hike of Rs 5.

The new fare structure for Monday to Saturday is as follows: Rs 11 for 0-2 km, Rs 21 for 2-5 km, Rs 32 for 5-12 km, Rs 43 for 12-21 km, Rs 54 for 21-32 km, and Rs 64 for distances beyond 32 km. On Sundays and national holidays, fares are slightly lower: Rs 11 for 0-2 km, Rs 11 for 2-5 km, Rs 21 for 5-12 km, Rs 32 for 12-21 km, Rs 43 for 21-32 km, and Rs 54 for distances over 32 km. Time limits for travel range from 65 to 180 minutes, depending on the distance.

The DMRC stated that the fare adjustment, based on recommendations from the fourth Fare Fixation Committee, aims to align with operational costs. However, the decision has sparked backlash on social media, with commuters questioning the rationale behind the hike and demanding clarity on additional benefits or improved facilities.

One user remarked, "I pay Rs 130 daily, now it’s Rs 140. Salary revisions don’t match this inflation adjustment." Another user criticized the lack of transparency, calling for a detailed fare chart.
