Delhi CM honors Vithalbhai Patel as a pioneer of India’s democracy.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta paid tribute to Vithalbhai Patel, describing him as the visionary who laid the groundwork for India’s identity as the “mother of democracy.” Speaking at the inaugural session of the All India Speakers’ Conference, Gupta highlighted Patel’s historic achievement as the first Indian Speaker of the Central Legislative Assembly during British rule a century ago.
Gupta reflected on the significance of Patel’s role, stating, “That moment must have ignited a spark in the hearts of Indians, showing that even under colonial rule, an Indian could raise his voice and be heard.” She emphasized that Patel’s tenure symbolized hope for a free India, where citizens would gather under their own Constitution and flag to shape policies for the nation’s welfare.
The Chief Minister praised Patel’s impartiality, noting, “No one ever criticised Vithalbhai Patel’s decisions.” Gupta underscored his enduring legacy, crediting him with establishing the democratic foundations that continue to guide India’s governance, inspiring generations to uphold the values of democracy.
