CJP Rejects Kangana Ranaut's 'Generation Gutter' Remark, Questions Her Seriousness

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has strongly criticised BJP MP Kangana Ranaut over her remarks targeting Generation Z protesters, accusing the actor-turned-politician of undermining young people who have been participating in demonstrations linked to the NEET paper leak controversy. The sharp exchange follows Ranaut's social media posts in which she described the language used by protesters as "puke-inducing" and "crass" while questioning their upbringing. Her comments have sparked political reactions and intensified the debate surrounding the student-led protests that have unfolded in recent weeks.

In an Instagram post, Ranaut, the BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi constituency, criticised protesters gathered at Delhi's Jantar Mantar and other locations across the country. Referring to some demonstrators as "Generation Gutter," she alleged that they glorified drug and alcohol use, depended on their parents financially, and contributed little to society. She also described the protesters as lacking academic merit and made remarks about women participating in the demonstrations, comments that drew criticism from political leaders and social media users alike. Several opposition figures questioned her statements and called for an apology, while also asking whether she understood the concerns surrounding the NEET paper leak that triggered the nationwide protests.

Responding to the controversy, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das dismissed Ranaut's remarks, saying that even members of her own party did not take her seriously. He argued that young people across Generation Z and Generation Alpha were unlikely to be influenced by her comments and questioned her commitment as a public representative. Referring to an earlier video in which Ranaut spoke about the workload involved in being a Member of Parliament, Das claimed that she had herself acknowledged the demands of public office, which he said reflected her lack of seriousness despite criticising younger generations.

Das further urged elected representatives to maintain the dignity of their office and use responsible language while addressing public issues. He asserted that Generation Z had contributed significantly to strengthening democratic participation in the country and deserved respect rather than ridicule. According to him, politicians should focus on addressing public concerns instead of making sweeping remarks about an entire generation.

The latest exchange comes against the backdrop of the CJP's prolonged agitation over the alleged NEET paper leak. The organisation began protests at Jantar Mantar on June 20, demanding accountability and the resignation of then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The demonstrations intensified with a "Parliament March" on July 20, during which clashes were reported between protesters and police. Authorities said more than 118 police personnel were injured during the unrest, while protesters alleged excessive use of force, including lathi charges, tear gas and pellet guns.

Following two rounds of discussions between the Centre and CJP representatives, Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on Saturday. The organisation subsequently called off its protests after receiving assurances that no action would be taken against peaceful demonstrators and that the families of students who died by suicide following the NEET paper leak would receive compensation. The war of words between Ranaut and the CJP has nevertheless kept political attention focused on the broader debate over the protests, public discourse and the role of young people in democratic movements.
