Chhattisgarh Police Book Supriya Shrinate, Neha Rathore Over Disputed Flag Video Post
Chhattisgarh Police File FIR Over Flag Post.
An FIR has been registered against Congress National Social Media Chairperson Supriya Shrinate, social media influencer Neha Singh Rathore and an X account named 'Gen Z of India' over an alleged misleading social media post concerning flag-hoisting during Independence Day celebrations in Chhattisgarh. The case was registered at the Raipur Civil Lines police station following a complaint by BJP spokesperson Ujjwal Deepak. A senior police officer said the complaint was filed under Sections 336(4), 353(2) and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The complainant alleged that the social media content was circulated in a manner that could create political discord. The FIR concerns a video clip that was shared online along with claims about the hoisting of a political party flag during Independence Day celebrations. The dispute centres on footage showing senior BJP MLA and former Chhattisgarh minister Ajay Chandrakar unfurling a BJP flag at Kurud in Dhamtari district. The video subsequently circulated on social media accompanied by claims that BJP representatives had hoisted their party flag instead of the national Tricolour during the August 15 Independence Day celebrations.
According to the police complaint, Shrinate and Rathore shared or amplified the footage through their respective social media accounts. Their posts reportedly criticised the ruling BJP and accused its representatives of disrespecting the national flag during Independence Day. The allegations surrounding the video have since become the subject of a police investigation. The police have now transferred the case to Dhamtari for further investigation because the incident shown in the video took place in Kurud, in Dhamtari district.

Investigators are expected to examine the original footage, the circumstances surrounding the flag-hoisting event and the manner in which the video was presented and circulated online. The FIR comes amid growing political disputes over social media posts involving public figures and political parties. Such cases often require investigators to establish whether digitally circulated material accurately represents the original event and whether accompanying claims could amount to an offence under applicable law.
The allegations in the FIR remain subject to investigation, and registration of a case does not by itself establish wrongdoing by the accused. Police will determine the authenticity and context of the video and assess the claims made alongside it. The investigation will also examine the role of the individuals and the X account named in the complaint before further legal action is considered.
