Congress Leaders Protest Over Delhi Crackdown Outside PM Modi's Residence

Congress leaders protest over Delhi action near PM residence.

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and other party members staged a protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, demanding accountability over the police crackdown on student protests in the national capital. The demonstration followed clashes between authorities and students protesting alleged irregularities related to examinations and education issues.

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, accused the government of avoiding accountability and called for the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. In a post on X, Gandhi alleged that young protesters were subjected to “brutalities” and said the government should address the issue in Parliament.

Congress leaders said they wanted to raise concerns over the treatment of students during parliamentary proceedings but claimed they were not allowed to speak. Congress MP Dr Syed Naseer Hussain said the protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence was organised to demand answers from the government over the handling of the demonstrations.

The protest took place after both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned amid opposition demands for a discussion on the NEET-UG paper leak allegations and broader concerns related to the education sector. Opposition parties have been pressing the government to respond to questions regarding examination processes and student concerns.

Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Congress general secretary KC Venugopal met students who were injured during the police action in Delhi. Gandhi criticised the response of authorities, saying that violence against students was unacceptable and called on the Prime Minister to address the issue publicly.

Meanwhile, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh and Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan met Rahul Gandhi and urged him to end the protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence. The confrontation between the government and opposition comes amid continuing political debate over student issues, examination transparency and the handling of public demonstrations.
