The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on Monday formally ushered in a new political and administrative term as Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, along with his cabinet ministers and newly elected legislators, took their oaths of office. The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Assembly complex amid a structured and ceremonial setting that marked the official beginning of the new government’s tenure.
The proceedings began at 9.30 am under the supervision of Pro-Tem Speaker MV Karuppaiah, who administered the oath of office and secrecy to the members of the House. Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay was the first to take oath, a protocol reflecting his position as head of the government. His oath was followed by the swearing-in of his ministerial colleagues, signalling the formal constitution of the new Council of Ministers.
A total of nine cabinet ministers were sworn in during the ceremony, including N Anand and Aadhav Arjuna, both of whom are expected to hold key portfolios in the new administration. The event saw newly elected MLAs take their places in the Assembly, reflecting a significant political transition and the beginning of governance under the newly formed leadership. The atmosphere remained formal and orderly throughout the proceedings.

The Assembly also witnessed the presence of several prominent political leaders from different parties, adding weight to the occasion. DMK legislature party leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin attended the session as a member of the House, along with senior leaders such as former Chief Ministers Edappadi K Palaniswami of the AIADMK and O Panneerselvam. Senior AIADMK legislators including Agri Krishnamurthy and KP Anbalagan were also sworn in as part of the new Assembly.
The event marked a politically significant moment for Tamil Nadu, symbolising the transition to a new governing structure and the beginning of a fresh legislative cycle. The Pro-Tem Speaker’s role ensured that constitutional procedures were followed meticulously, setting a formal tone for the Assembly’s functioning. The ceremony is expected to be followed by detailed discussions on governance priorities in upcoming sessions.
With the new government now in place, attention shifts to its policy agenda and legislative direction in the coming months. The Assembly is expected to witness active debates on development, welfare, and administrative reforms as both ruling and opposition parties prepare for an intense and structured session ahead.
