BSP To Contest UP, Punjab And Uttarakhand Assembly Elections Alone: Mayawati
BSP will independently contest assembly elections in three states.
Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Tuesday announced that the party will contest the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand on its own, ruling out an electoral alliance with other political parties. The announcement came during a meeting in Lucknow where she reviewed the BSP's organisational position and support base in Punjab and discussed preparations for the upcoming polls.
Explaining the decision, Mayawati argued that electoral alliances have resulted in losses for the BSP in terms of both seats and vote share. She directed party workers and office-bearers to intensify preparations and strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level. Particular emphasis was placed on building the party's presence up to the booth level across the three states.
Mayawati also instructed party functionaries to ensure that candidates selected for the elections are hardworking and honest, while avoiding shortcomings in the party's preparations. She urged BSP workers to remain united and actively engage with voters as they prepare to face the strategies of rival political parties.

The BSP chief's decision comes as the party seeks to strengthen its independent political position ahead of the Assembly elections. She also directed leaders to complete preparations for the October 9 programme marking the death anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram. The event is expected to be used to reinforce the party's organisational mobilisation and connect with its support base.
Mayawati further stressed the importance of strengthening financial support for 'Jan Kalyankari Diwas', scheduled to be observed on January 15, 2027. She linked such programmes to advancing the Ambedkarite ideology and strengthening the BSP movement among its supporters and workers.
The BSP chief also outlined the party's broader political focus on policies aimed at providing relief to poor, unemployed and marginalised sections and improving their opportunities for a life with self-respect. She directed the party's organisational machinery to remain active and election-ready as the BSP prepares to contest the three state polls without an alliance.
