#BiharResults: Rahul Gandhi Terms Verdict “Unfair” as NDA Sweeps Bihar Polls
NDA’s sweeping Bihar win triggers Rahul Gandhi’s criticism, alleging unfair process and surprising electoral irregularities.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a resounding victory in the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, clinching a thumping majority that exceeded exit poll predictions and solidified its dominance in the state. With the BJP emerging as the single largest party, the coalition—led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United)—swept the 243-seat legislative assembly, underscoring a strong mandate for continuity in governance.
The results, declared on Saturday, mark a significant setback for the opposition Mahagathbandhan, comprising the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress, which suffered a humiliating defeat by failing to cross even 50 seats combined. This outcome reflects Bihar's evolving political landscape, where development agendas and caste dynamics played pivotal roles, building on the NDA's narrow 2019 win and Nitish Kumar's strategic alliances.
In a detailed breakdown of the seat tally, the BJP demonstrated an impressive 89% strike rate, capturing 89 seats across the state, while its key ally JD(U) followed closely with 85 seats, ensuring the NDA's comfortable path to power. Smaller NDA partners contributed further: Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) won 19 seats, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) secured 5, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha bagged 4.
On the opposition front, RJD managed 25 seats, with Congress trailing far behind at just 6, highlighting internal fissures and voter disillusionment within the Mahagathbandhan. Independents and other parties, including All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen with 5 seats, Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation with 2, and single seats each for Indian Inclusive Party, CPI(M), and Bahujan Samaj Party, accounted for the remainder, preventing any major third-front emergence.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the verdict as a resounding endorsement of "pro-people, pro-governance, and pro-development" policies, pledging enhanced investments in jobs, tourism, and the revival of pilgrimage sites and heritage structures across Bihar. Nitish Kumar, expressing gratitude to voters and Modi for the "landslide mandate," vowed to accelerate infrastructure projects and social welfare schemes that have defined his tenure since 2005. The win bolsters the NDA's national footprint ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha polls, particularly in eastern India, where Bihar's 40 parliamentary seats hold sway. Analysts attribute the BJP's surge to effective micro-management of voter outreach and leveraging central schemes like PM Awas Yojana, even as caste-based mobilization from RJD's traditional Yadav-Muslim base faltered.

The opposition's rout has sparked introspection, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi labeling the results "surprising" and alleging an "unfair" electoral process marred by irregularities. RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav conceded the loss but promised a resurgence through grassroots rebuilding. As celebrations unfold in Patna and across NDA strongholds, the election underscores Bihar's transition from "jungle raj" narratives to aspirations for economic upliftment, with the new assembly's composition—dominated by upper-caste and EBC representation in NDA ranks—poised to influence policy on education, employment, and law enforcement.
With the NDA eyeing over 200 seats in total, Bihar's political stability appears fortified, setting the stage for another term of coalition governance under Nitish Kumar's stewardship.
