Bihar Congress Targets BJP With “Murder Of Constitution” Remark On Ambedkar Jayanti

Bihar Congress criticises BJP over constitutional concerns during Ambedkar Jayanti observance.

Bihar Congress leaders have sharply criticised the BJP on the occasion of Dr B R Ambedkar Jayanti, accusing the party of orchestrating a “murder of the Constitution” amid reports of an impending change in the state’s Chief Ministerial leadership. The strong remarks came as political circles in the state buzz with speculation over a possible shift in power, with Nitish Kumar reportedly set to step down, potentially paving the way for the first-ever BJP-led government in Bihar.

Congress functionaries described the developments as an assault on the democratic values and social justice principles enshrined in the Constitution drafted by Dr Ambedkar. They alleged that the BJP’s political manoeuvres in Bihar reflect a broader agenda to undermine constitutional ethos and sideline the aspirations of marginalised communities. The timing of the accusations, coinciding with nationwide celebrations of Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14, has intensified the political rhetoric in the state.

The controversy unfolds against the backdrop of Bihar’s fluid coalition politics. Nitish Kumar, who has served multiple terms as Chief Minister, has long navigated alliances between the NDA and Mahagathbandhan. Recent signals suggest he may resign soon, leading to speculation that a new BJP-dominated arrangement could take shape. Opposition parties, including Congress, view this potential transition as an opportunistic move that disregards the mandate and constitutional norms of governance.

Congress leaders drew parallels with national-level debates where the party has repeatedly accused the BJP and RSS of weakening democratic institutions and the idea of equality. They reiterated their commitment to defending Ambedkar’s legacy of social justice, reservation, and fundamental rights. The Bihar unit’s statement framed the alleged CM change as part of a larger pattern of constitutional erosion, urging people to remain vigilant against forces seeking to alter the foundational principles of the republic.

Political observers note that Ambedkar Jayanti has become an occasion for competing narratives on constitutional protection across party lines. While the BJP has in the past highlighted its initiatives for Dalit empowerment and accused opposition parties of neglecting Ambedkar’s contributions during their rule, the Congress in Bihar has chosen to go on the offensive, linking local power shifts directly to threats against the Constitution.

As Bihar stands at the cusp of a possible leadership change, the Congress’s “Murder of Constitution” slogan has added a sharp ideological edge to the unfolding political realignment. The coming days are expected to clarify the exact contours of the new government formation, even as debates over constitutional values and Ambedkar’s vision continue to dominate public discourse in the state.
