Mamata Banerjee Alleges BJP Deleted 90 Lakh Voters In Bengal
Mamata Banerjee accuses BJP of deleting over 90 lakh Bengal voters; TMC plans legal action.
West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on Thursday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) deleted over 90 lakh voters from the state’s electoral rolls in a bid to grab power. Speaking at a public rally in Minakhan, North 24 Parganas, she asserted that her party will win the upcoming Assembly elections.
Addressing the crowd, Banerjee said her party would move court to ensure that all those removed from the voter lists are reinstated. “You deleted names of over 90 lakh people to grab power in Bengal, but we will win,” she stated, criticizing the BJP over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise conducted in the state.
The Chief Minister’s comments followed reports that nearly 91 lakh voters’ names were deleted from the electoral rolls after the completion of the SIR exercise. She alleged that the exercise disproportionately affected certain communities, raising concerns over electoral fairness and representation.

Banerjee also accused the BJP of targeting Bengali-speaking populations in other states. “People are being tortured in BJP-ruled states for speaking in Bengali. It terms Bengali as a foreign language and describes Bengali-speaking people as infiltrators,” she said, linking the voter deletion issue to broader concerns over cultural and linguistic marginalization.
The TMC supremo’s allegations come amid a high-stakes political battle in West Bengal, where the BJP has been attempting to expand its influence in recent years. The voter deletion issue is expected to become a central topic in the upcoming election campaigns, potentially shaping political discourse across the state.
Election officials have not yet publicly responded to Banerjee’s claims. However, the matter is likely to draw scrutiny from both the Election Commission of India and judicial authorities, as parties seek clarity on the deletion of such a large number of voters from the rolls.
