Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot continues to remain a prominent figure in state Congress politics despite no longer holding an official post. With civic elections approaching and the next Assembly polls around two years away, Gehlot has been active across Rajasthan, including touring the Marwar region, meeting student leaders involved in protests and inducting Bharat Adivasi Party workers at his residence. His recent activities have renewed discussion about his influence within the state Congress organisation.
Student activism has also emerged as a significant political issue in Rajasthan, with protests over the suspension of student union elections. The NSUI and ABVP have launched separate agitations, while independent student leader Shubham Rewad has emerged as a prominent face of the movement. Rewad reportedly undertook a 15-day hunger strike and spent seven days in an intensive care unit before going without water for two days, drawing attention from political leaders.
Gehlot, Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee chief Govind Singh Dotasara and Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully reached out to Rewad during the agitation. The movement has also attracted interest among school students, adding another dimension to the student protests. The developments come amid wider attention on youth-led activism and demonstrations, following similar mobilisation among young people in other parts of the country.

Meanwhile, Bhilwara district has emerged as the top performer in the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization's (NOTTO) Digital Organ Donation Pledge Campaign. Between July 1 and July 31, more than 24,400 residents generated digital certificates and pledged to donate their organs and bodies. Bhilwara finished ahead of Ahmedabad, which secured the second position in the campaign.
District officials attributed the achievement to an awareness campaign led by Collector Jasmeet Sandhu and Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Sanjeev Sharma. Medical teams involved in the campaign worked to address misconceptions surrounding organ donation and encouraged residents to participate in the digital pledge initiative. The campaign has highlighted the role of district-level awareness efforts in encouraging public participation in organ donation.
The Bhilwara milestone comes against the backdrop of India's continuing need for organ donations. The country performs around 20,000 organ transplants annually, while demand for donated organs remains substantial. The district's performance in the digital pledge campaign has therefore been viewed as an important local awareness achievement, even as efforts continue nationwide to increase organ donation and transplantation.
