Amit Shah Raises Concerns Over Women’s Safety And Violence In West Bengal

Amit Shah criticises Mamata Banerjee and promises action against alleged violence in West Bengal.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday launched a sharp political attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging administrative failure and accusing the ruling government of failing to protect women and curb political violence in the state.

Addressing an election rally in Onda, Bankura district, Shah referred to several incidents of alleged crimes against women in West Bengal, including the rape and murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital and alleged abuses reported in Sandeshkhali. He claimed that the state leadership had remained indifferent to such incidents, making strong remarks against the Chief Minister’s governance.

The Union Home Minister alleged that crimes against women and the presence of illegal infiltration had become serious concerns in West Bengal, further stating that these issues were affecting public safety and employment opportunities for local youth. He asserted that action would be taken against those responsible if the opposition came to power in the state.

Shah also raised the issue of political violence, claiming that more than 300 Bharatiya Janata Party workers had been killed over the past 15 years in the state. He warned that those involved in violence against party workers would be held accountable, intensifying the already heated electoral rhetoric ahead of polling.

He further alleged that the ruling administration had allowed criminal elements to operate with impunity and cautioned that strict action would be taken against what he described as “anti-social elements” if voters supported his party in the upcoming elections scheduled for April 23 and April 29.

The remarks come amid an intense election campaign in West Bengal, where political parties are ramping up their outreach efforts ahead of the two-phase Assembly polls. The contest has seen heightened political exchanges between the ruling party and the opposition, with both sides trading allegations over governance, security, and development in the state.
