Amit Shah in Kerala: These Polls are About The State's Future, Not Just Changing Government

Amit Shah campaigns in Kerala, urging voters to elect the NDA for genuine state development.

Amit Shah on Sunday said that the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections are not just about changing the government but about shaping a better future for the state. Addressing a public gathering in Kunnathunadu constituency, Shah urged voters to look beyond immediate political outcomes and focus on long-term development and governance.

Highlighting the growth of the National Democratic Alliance in the state, Shah said that the alliance’s vote share has steadily increased since the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He expressed confidence that the time has come for the BJP-led front to form a government in Kerala, a state traditionally dominated by regional and Left parties.

During his address, Shah extended greetings to the Christian community on the occasion of Easter and appealed to them to support the NDA in the upcoming polls. He reiterated that the alliance operates on the principle of “justice for all and appeasement of none,” which he described as a guiding philosophy of governance across the country.

Taking a swipe at Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Shah accused the state government of rebranding centrally funded projects to claim credit. He alleged that the ruling administration has been misleading the public by changing the names of schemes funded by the central government.

The remarks come as political campaigning intensifies ahead of the Kerala Assembly elections scheduled for April 9. The contest is expected to see a triangular fight between the ruling Left Democratic Front, the United Democratic Front, and the BJP-led NDA, with each alliance attempting to expand its influence in the state.

Kerala’s electoral landscape has historically been characterised by alternating governments between the Left and the Congress-led fronts, making the BJP’s ambitions to gain a foothold a significant political development. Shah’s statements underline the NDA’s strategy to position itself as a viable alternative and expand its base in the southern state.
