BJP Hails Amit Shah’s ‘Historic’ Speech, Targets Congress Over Naxalism

BJP backs Amit Shah’s Naxal eradication claims, defends criticism of Congress.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday hailed Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement in the Lok Sabha that India has become virtually Naxal-free, describing his address as “historic” and strongly backing his criticism of the Congress party. BJP leaders said the speech highlighted the success of the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards Naxalism and brought attention to the issue’s origins and past handling.

During a debate on Naxalism in Parliament, Amit Shah outlined the government’s efforts in curbing left-wing extremism, presenting what BJP leaders described as a detailed account of achievements under the Narendra Modi administration. Party MP Dinesh Sharma called the address “historic,” stating that the Home Minister had presented facts in a clear and precise manner while exposing the alleged role of Congress in the spread of Naxalism.

Echoing similar sentiments, BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal said that with Naxalism now largely eradicated, it is important for citizens to understand how the movement originated and expanded. He alleged that Congress policies had allowed Naxalism to flourish over the years. Former Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi also criticized the opposition, claiming that its “confusing policies” on Naxalism and terrorism contributed to their growth, while asserting that both have significantly declined under the current government.

BJP MP Jagdambika Pal highlighted the human cost of the insurgency, stating that more than 20,000 people had lost their lives due to Naxal violence over the decades. He claimed that the “Red Corridor” had once spread across multiple states during the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, posing a major internal security challenge. Pal also alleged that the National Advisory Council during the UPA era interfered in anti-Naxal operations.

Adding to the party’s position, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari reiterated Shah’s claim that the remaining Naxal elements are either surrendering or in the process of doing so. He emphasized that Naxalism was rooted in an ideology that promoted armed struggle over democratic processes, questioning whether power should be achieved through violence or electoral means.

The BJP’s response reflects a broader political narrative ahead of upcoming elections, with the party projecting its governance as decisive in tackling internal security threats while accusing the Congress of past inaction. The issue of Naxalism continues to remain a key point of political debate, particularly in regions previously affected by left-wing extremism.
