AIADMK's Political Crisis Deepens: Fifth MLA Resigns Amid Party Turbulence
AIADMK faces internal crisis as fifth MLA resigns in one month.
Former Tamil Nadu Health Minister and Viralimalai MLA C Vijayabaskar has resigned from the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, becoming the fifth MLA from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) to step down within a month. The development comes at a time of heightened political instability within the party, raising questions about internal unity and future organisational direction.
According to official sources, Vijayabaskar submitted his resignation to Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker M. Appavu at the state Secretariat in Chennai on Tuesday. The Speaker subsequently accepted the resignation, formally ending his tenure as a sitting member of the legislative assembly. The reasons behind his decision have not been publicly detailed at the time of reporting.
The resignation is part of a broader pattern of departures from the AIADMK in recent weeks. Before Vijayabaskar’s exit, four other party MLAs had also stepped down from the Assembly, signalling growing turbulence within the party’s legislative ranks. The repeated resignations have intensified political scrutiny over the party’s internal functioning and leadership cohesion.

AIADMK, once a dominant force in Tamil Nadu politics, has been facing challenges in maintaining its organisational strength following electoral setbacks and leadership transitions in recent years. The recent wave of resignations has further fueled speculation about factional differences and shifting political alignments within the party.
Political observers believe the current situation could have implications for the party’s standing in the state legislature and its broader political strategy. As the developments continue to unfold, attention is now focused on whether the party leadership will take steps to address internal concerns and prevent further resignations in the coming weeks.
