AAP Wins 30 of 50 Wards in Moga Municipal Corporation Elections
AAP secures historic Moga MC majority while losing Raikot and Payal seats.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) secured a decisive majority in the Moga Municipal Corporation elections, winning 30 of the 50 wards, in a result widely seen as a mandate for political stability in the city after a turbulent civic leadership cycle marked by frequent changes in mayors during the previous term.
The victory marks a significant consolidation of power for the ruling party in Punjab at the local level, with the remaining seats split among Congress, Independents, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), each winning seven, seven, and one seat, respectively, according to the final results. The outcome gives AAP firm control over the corporation house for the first time with a clear working majority.
The elections were closely watched due to Moga’s recent history of political instability in municipal governance. In the 2021 civic polls, no party had secured a majority, with Congress emerging as the single largest party but falling short of the threshold. AAP’s latest performance marks a sharp turnaround, significantly expanding its urban base in the region.

Campaigning for the ruling party was led by Dr. Amandeep Kaur Arora, the Moga MLA and state president of AAP’s women’s wing, who framed the election as a referendum on the government’s welfare schemes. Party leaders described the result as voter endorsement of development initiatives and administrative continuity at the municipal level.
In contrast, opposition parties managed limited gains in other parts of the region, with Congress securing key wins in Raikot and Independents retaining influence in several wards. The fragmented results in some neighboring civic bodies, including ties in areas like Jagraon, reflected a mixed political landscape even as AAP strengthened its hold in Moga.
The result is expected to pave the way for the formation of a stable municipal administration after years of shifting alliances and leadership changes. Party leaders say the focus will now shift to improving urban infrastructure, sanitation, and civic services, while opposition parties are likely to reassess their strategy ahead of future local body elections.
