Aaditya Thackeray Raises Ethanol Policy Concerns With PM Modi In Letter
Aaditya Thackeray highlights ethanol policy concerns in letter.
Shiv Sena (UBT) Legislature Party leader Aaditya Thackeray has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the Centre to review its ethanol-blended fuel policy. Thackeray said the mandatory use of ethanol-mixed petrol has affected millions of consumers and could have broader economic consequences.
In a post on X on Thursday, Thackeray said he had formally raised concerns with the Prime Minister regarding the Union government’s push for ethanol-blended fuel. He argued that the policy has created challenges for citizens and has had a wider impact on the economy.
Thackeray said fuel policies should ensure affordability and provide consumers with options. He expressed hope that the ethanol-blending issue would not become a matter of conflict between the Centre and citizens, while urging the government to consider the concerns of people affected by the policy.

“I hope that the ethanol issue is not made into an issue of tussle of the Union Government forcing it on Indian citizens to support a particular interest group, and a choice is made available, at affordable rates,” Thackeray said in his post.
The ethanol-blending programme has been promoted by the Union government as part of efforts to reduce dependence on imported crude oil, support farmers, and encourage the use of alternative fuels. However, the policy has also led to debates among political leaders, industry stakeholders, and consumers over fuel compatibility, pricing, and availability.
Thackeray’s letter adds to the ongoing political discussion over India’s fuel strategy, with the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader seeking a review of the current approach and calling for measures that balance environmental goals with consumer interests and economic considerations.
