12,000 New Polling Stations Added in Bihar For Elections
Bihar Boosts Electoral Access with Over 12,000 New Polling Stations
The Bihar government has established 12,817 new polling stations, increasing the total to 90,712 from 77,895, as part of the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) initiative. This move aims to enhance voter accessibility ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections.
According to the election department’s Saturday release, 12,479 of these new stations are located within the same buildings or premises as existing ones, with the rest set up nearby. A detailed district-wise list of the new polling stations has been shared with registered political parties to ensure transparency.
The Election Commission’s June 25 notification directed Election Registration Officers to evaluate the need for additional polling stations, ensuring no station exceeds 1,200 electors without prior approval.

With the SIR process nearing its July 25 deadline, the EC reports that 95.92% of Bihar’s 7.9 crore registered voters have been covered. However, 41.64 lakh voters, including those deceased or not found at their registered addresses, have been identified as potentially ineligible.
This expansion reflects Bihar’s commitment to streamlining the electoral process and ensuring a fair and inclusive election.
