Youth Urged To Prioritise National Growth Over Small Personal Interests For Progress

National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on Saturday urged India’s youth to prioritise national interest over personal gains and contribute towards building a stronger nation. Addressing a gathering in Pune after receiving the Lokmanya Tilak National Award 2026, Doval said the younger generation must make the most of the opportunity before the country and remain committed to its progress. The award was presented to Doval by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at an event organised by the Tilak Smarak Trust. During his address, the NSA said India was going through an important phase in its history and called upon young citizens to dedicate themselves towards the country’s development rather than focusing on short-term personal interests.

“Today’s youth should commit themselves completely and think that they will work only for the national interest. They should be willing to sacrifice small personal interests, and even if such considerations arise, they should ignore them,” Doval said. He emphasised that individual choices and ambitions should align with broader national goals during this crucial period. Highlighting India’s current growth trajectory, Doval said the country has a limited window of opportunity to strengthen itself economically, strategically, and socially. He urged citizens, particularly the youth, not to allow this opportunity to pass and said nation-building should remain the country’s primary focus.

“There is a window of opportunity in the history of our country. We cannot afford to lose it. Right now, our priority is to build the nation,” Doval said while addressing the gathering. He expressed confidence that India would achieve its objectives and create a new chapter in its history through collective efforts. The NSA also praised the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, saying the country was fortunate to have leaders working towards national development. He highlighted the importance of strong leadership, commitment, and public participation in achieving long-term goals.

During his speech, Doval also paid tribute to Lokmanya Tilak, describing him as not only a freedom fighter but also a social reformer and philosopher. He highlighted Tilak’s contributions to India’s independence movement and his role in inspiring people towards social and national causes. The Lokmanya Tilak National Award is presented annually by the Tilak Smarak Trust to recognise individuals who have made significant contributions in areas of national importance. The award has previously honoured personalities from various fields for their service and achievements.

Doval’s remarks focused on the role of young Indians in shaping the country’s future. He said national progress requires dedication, discipline, and a willingness to look beyond immediate personal interests. His message comes at a time when India is focusing on economic growth, technological advancement, defence capabilities, and global influence. Calling upon the youth to become active participants in nation-building, Doval said collective commitment would be essential for India to achieve its ambitions. He expressed confidence that with sustained efforts and a shared sense of responsibility, the country would continue to progress and establish a stronger position globally.
