Air India Restores India-Canada Connectivity With 10 Weekly Flights After Resumption

Air India restarts India-Canada flight services

Air India has resumed 10 weekly flights between India and Canada after temporarily reducing its operations due to disruptions caused by the United States-Iran conflict. The airline has restored services between Toronto and New Delhi while also expanding connectivity to Mumbai, using its new wide-bodied Boeing aircraft on key international routes. The first flight operated with Air India’s new Boeing 787-9 aircraft between Toronto and New Delhi took off on Saturday, bringing back the daily service between the two cities. According to the airline, seven of the 10 weekly flights on the Toronto-Delhi route will now be operated using the new aircraft, introducing Air India’s upgraded cabin interiors and onboard experience for passengers travelling between India and Canada.

The deployment of the Boeing 787-9 aircraft is part of Air India’s broader fleet modernisation strategy aimed at improving long-haul travel experiences. The aircraft features upgraded seating, enhanced passenger amenities, and newer cabin products designed to provide greater comfort on international routes. The airline said the move marks the first time its latest cabin product will be available to passengers travelling to Canada. Along with restoring services, Air India has announced an expansion of its Canada operations for the Winter 2026-27 season. The airline will introduce a new non-stop service connecting Toronto and Mumbai, further strengthening air connectivity between the two countries.

The expansion will increase overall capacity between India and Canada by around 4,400 seats every month. During the Winter 2026-27 schedule, Air India will operate 20 weekly flights from Canada to India. The schedule will include 10 weekly flights between Toronto and New Delhi, three weekly flights between Toronto and Mumbai, and seven weekly flights connecting Vancouver and New Delhi. The expanded network is expected to provide passengers with more travel options and improved flexibility. The resumption and expansion of flights come after Air India had curtailed some international operations due to airspace disruptions linked to escalating tensions between the United States and Iran.

The airline, like several global carriers, had to adjust routes and schedules to ensure passenger safety and operational stability amid geopolitical uncertainty. Canada remains an important international market for Air India due to strong travel demand from students, business travellers, tourists, and the Indian diaspora. The expansion of direct services is expected to benefit passengers by reducing dependence on connecting flights and improving travel convenience between major cities in both countries.

The airline has been steadily rebuilding its international network as part of its transformation programme following its privatisation and return to the Tata Group. Expanding long-haul routes and introducing newer aircraft are key elements of its strategy to compete more effectively in the global aviation market. With additional flights and upgraded aircraft being introduced, Air India aims to strengthen its position on India-Canada routes while meeting growing demand for direct air connectivity. The expanded winter schedule is expected to provide passengers with greater choice and support increased movement between the two countries.
