Harivansh Re-Elected Unopposed As Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman In Parliament

Harivansh re-elected unopposed as Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman for a third consecutive term.

Harivansh Narayan Singh has been re-elected unopposed as the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha for a third consecutive term, following a unanimous decision in the Upper House of Parliament on Friday.

The motion for his election was moved by Leader of the House J. P. Nadda and was accepted without any contest, as no opposing nominations were filed. His previous term had ended on April 9, leaving the post temporarily vacant until the latest election.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Harivansh on his re-election, highlighting his experience and continued contribution to the functioning of the Upper House. Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge also extended his congratulations, marking a rare moment of consensus across party lines in Parliament.

Harivansh’s re-election is significant as it underscores his long-standing role in presiding over proceedings of the Rajya Sabha. A journalist-turned-politician, he has served multiple terms in the position and is known for his administrative handling of legislative business in the Upper House.

Notably, his continued tenure also marks a procedural milestone, as he remains among the few nominated members to hold the office of Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, reflecting an uncommon continuity in a position typically influenced by shifting parliamentary dynamics.
