Zeeshan Siddique Criticises Mumbai Police Over Father’s Murder Probe
Zeeshan Siddique demands justice for father’s killing.
NCP leader and former MLA Zeeshan Siddique launched a scathing attack on the Mumbai Police on Tuesday, accusing them of adopting a “casual” approach in investigating the murder of his father, Baba Siddique, a former Maharashtra minister. The high-profile killing, which occurred on October 12, 2024, in Mumbai’s Bandra area, remains unresolved nearly a year later, prompting Zeeshan to demand accountability and swift action.
Speaking to PTI after meeting DCP Crime Branch Raj Tilak Roshan, Zeeshan expressed frustration over the lack of “solid” progress in the case, despite the arrest of 25 individuals. Mumbai Police have linked the murder to jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother, Anmol Bishnoi, who allegedly orchestrated the killing through a contract given to Zeeshan Akhtar and Shubham Lonkar. Akhtar was apprehended in Canada months ago, but Zeeshan claims procedural delays and a lack of decisive action have stalled justice.
“The police’s casual tone in meetings and reluctance to act are unacceptable,” Zeeshan told reporters, highlighting his dissatisfaction with the investigation’s pace. He revealed ongoing discussions with NCP chief and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who has assured continued support to ensure justice for the Siddique family.

Zeeshan’s lawyer, Pradeep Gharat, added that the team filed an appeal after receiving an “unsatisfactory” RTI response regarding the probe. Gharat indicated they are prepared to escalate the matter to the Bombay High Court if investigative lapses persist. The case, which has drawn significant public attention, underscores broader concerns about the efficiency of high-profile criminal investigations in Mumbai.
