World Record: Indian Woman's Hair Grows to Nearly 9 Feet

Uttarakhand woman sets Guinness World Record for longest female hair.

Indian content creator Renu Dhariyal has set a Guinness World Record for the longest hair on a living person (female), with her hair measuring 271.50 centimetres, or 8 feet 10 inches. The record was officially verified in Haldwani in April, recognising the extraordinary length of her thick, raven-black hair.

Dhariyal’s hair is nearly as long as the height of Robert Wadlow, the tallest man in recorded history, who stood at 272 centimetres, or 8 feet 11.1 inches. Her measurement surpassed the previous record held by Ukraine’s Aliia Nasyrova, whose hair measured 257.33 centimetres, or approximately 8 feet 5.3 inches.

Dhariyal said she has been growing her hair continuously since 2015 and has not cut it during that period. She explained that her decision was inspired by Indian cultural traditions in which long hair is often associated with beauty, femininity and heritage. More than a decade of careful maintenance eventually helped her secure the global distinction.

Photographs released following the verification show Dhariyal’s hair trailing across the floor, extending beyond the edge of a bed and surrounding her while she sits. To prevent it from touching the ground during everyday activities, she often gathers it into an elaborate plait that makes the exceptional length easier to manage.

Maintaining hair of such length requires considerable time, patience and care. Dhariyal said she spends several hours washing and carefully detangling it to reduce knots and prevent damage. Its thickness and shine have also attracted attention online, where viewers frequently ask her about the routine and techniques she follows to keep it healthy.

Dhariyal works as a content creator and YouTuber, sharing beauty advice and haircare tips with other women through her online platforms. Her achievement highlights the sustained effort involved in maintaining exceptionally long hair and places her among Guinness World Records holders after an official measurement confirmed that she had exceeded the previous benchmark.
