Indian Man Sets World Record With 847 Push-Ups, 27kg Backpack
Once bedridden, Rohtash Chaudhary sets push-up world record with heavy backpack.
Indian fitness enthusiast Rohtash Chaudhary has entered the Guinness World Records after completing 847 push-ups in one hour while carrying a 27.21-kilogram (60-pound) backpack. The achievement was recorded at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, where the 41-year-old surpassed the previous world record and added another milestone to his reputation as the "Push-up Man of India." The feat was performed under official Guinness World Records supervision.
The record attempt required Chaudhary to maintain a consistent pace while carrying the weighted backpack throughout the hour-long challenge. Guinness World Records later shared a video of the achievement on Instagram, showing Chaudhary walking onto the stage wearing the heavy backpack before completing the push-ups with controlled technique as officials monitored and counted every valid repetition. He eventually finished with 847 push-ups, setting a new world record in the category.
Chaudhary's accomplishment is particularly remarkable considering the challenges he has overcome in his life. According to reports, he was bedridden for nearly two years earlier in his life due to health-related issues. Despite that setback, he gradually rebuilt his strength through rigorous training and dedicated years to improving his physical fitness, eventually becoming known for his endurance-based push-up performances.

The new record surpassed the previous benchmark established by Sami Jomah Hassan of Syria in 2023. Completing hundreds of push-ups while carrying additional weight places immense strain on the shoulders, chest, arms and core, making the challenge significantly more demanding than a standard push-up endurance attempt. Maintaining proper form throughout the exercise is also essential for every repetition to be officially recognised.
A small but enthusiastic crowd witnessed the record-breaking performance at the stadium, cheering Chaudhary throughout the challenge. His achievement has since attracted widespread attention on social media after Guinness World Records published footage of the successful attempt, with many users praising his discipline, perseverance and determination in overcoming physical and mental barriers.
The accomplishment adds another chapter to India's growing list of Guinness World Records achievements and highlights the importance of resilience and long-term dedication in competitive fitness. Chaudhary's journey from being bedridden to becoming a world record holder serves as an example of how consistent effort and perseverance can help overcome significant personal challenges while inspiring others to pursue ambitious goals.
