Women’s Safety, Welfare Delivery Key Concerns Under DMK: AIADMK
AIADMK criticises DMK rule, says EPS governance record offers better alternative.
The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has intensified its criticism of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, alleging corruption, administrative inefficiency, and deteriorating law and order in the state. Party spokesperson Apsara R said the central issue before voters is what she described as the “misrule” of the DMK government.
In remarks shared with The New Indian Express, Apsara R claimed that Tamil Nadu has witnessed a rise in crimes against women, weakening welfare delivery, and growing state debt under the current administration. She also referred to past comments by former Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, which she said highlighted concerns about systemic corruption within the government.
The AIADMK, led by former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, plans to campaign on the themes of good governance and efficient welfare delivery. Apsara R said the party intends to highlight the previous AIADMK government’s record in handling crises such as cyclones, droughts, and the pandemic, as well as its focus on infrastructure development and industrial investment.

Regarding electoral alliances, she indicated that the AIADMK will remain the principal force within the National Democratic Alliance in Tamil Nadu. The exact number of seats the party will contest in the 234-member Assembly will depend on ongoing seat-sharing negotiations with allies, including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Apsara R also dismissed concerns that the BJP’s presence in the alliance could be a political liability, stating that cooperation between the AIADMK and the BJP has historically helped bring development projects and institutional support to the state. She emphasized that the AIADMK has maintained its distinct Dravidian identity while working with the Union government when it benefits Tamil Nadu.
On the emergence of Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the political party launched by actor Vijay, Apsara R said new entrants are welcome in a democracy but voters ultimately prioritize governance experience and credibility. She argued that the AIADMK’s administrative track record under Palaniswami stands “in stark contrast” to the current government’s performance, particularly on issues such as women’s safety and fiscal discipline.
