Wang Yi Calls For Stronger India-China Partnership To Amplify Global South's Voice Worldwide

China's top diplomat Wang Yi has called for closer cooperation between India and China, urging the two Asian powers to play a leading role in strengthening solidarity among developing nations and advancing the interests of the Global South. Wang made the remarks during a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, according to a statement shared by China's Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong.
Wang, who is a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs, described India and China as the world's two largest developing countries and important members of the Global South. He said both nations should serve as examples in promoting solidarity, self-reliance and cooperation among developing countries.
The Chinese diplomat also expressed Beijing's support for India's role as the rotating chair of BRICS, the grouping that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. He said China would continue working with India to ensure meaningful progress in BRICS cooperation and support New Delhi in carrying out its responsibilities during its chairmanship.

Emphasising the need for stronger bilateral engagement, Wang said China was prepared to work with India to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries. He called for efforts to increase mutual trust, address areas of concern, and expand cooperation across sectors while maintaining positive momentum in bilateral relations.
According to the statement, Wang stressed the importance of managing sensitive issues through dialogue and cooperation. He said stronger ties between India and China would not only benefit the people of both countries but also contribute to regional stability and the broader interests of the international community. The remarks come as New Delhi and Beijing continue efforts to stabilise relations after years of tensions along their disputed border.
Both sides have repeatedly expressed a desire to improve communication and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest, while seeking to manage differences through diplomatic channels. Wang's visit and discussions with Prime Minister Modi underscore the significance both countries attach to maintaining constructive engagement amid evolving global and regional challenges.
