Verbal Clash Erupts in Surat's Saniya Kande Village Over Removal of Alleged Encroachment

The Surat sarpanch and SMC deputy mayor's sons clash over alleged encroachment removal.

A dispute over the removal of alleged encroachments on government land in Surat’s Saniya Kande village escalated into a heated verbal confrontation between the village sarpanch and the sons of Surat Municipal Corporation’s newly appointed Deputy Mayor. The incident took place on Sunday and has since attracted significant attention after a video of the argument circulated widely on social media platforms.

According to local sources, the confrontation involved village Sarpanch Jashpalsinh Solanki and Rahul Chaudhary and Atul Chaudhary, the sons of Deputy Mayor Sudhakar Chaudhary. The disagreement reportedly arose during an exercise to remove what village authorities described as encroachments on government-owned land in the village. The land is said to be commonly used as grazing ground by local residents.

Solanki, who also serves as the state secretary of the BJP’s Kishan Morcha, said the action was initiated following complaints from villagers regarding unauthorized occupation of public land. He stated that local residents had raised concerns about structures and activities taking place on the government property, prompting the village administration to intervene and clear the area.

On Sunday, the sarpanch, accompanied by villagers, arrived at the site and began removing alleged encroachments, including temporary shops and other structures. During the operation, Rahul and Atul Chaudhary, who have reportedly rented and operate a party plot adjacent to the government land, reached the location. This led to a heated exchange between the two sides, with both parties arguing over the ownership and use of the land in question.

As tensions rose, personnel from the Dindoli police station arrived at the scene and intervened to prevent the situation from escalating further. The police managed to restore order, and no major law-and-order incident was reported. Authorities have not announced any criminal action in connection with the altercation as of now, and the matter remains under local scrutiny.

Deputy Mayor Sudhakar Chaudhary has denied allegations of encroachment linked to his family, while the village leadership maintains that decisions regarding fencing and protection of the land were taken by the gram panchayat. The episode has sparked political and public discussion in the village, which has a population of more than 50,000 residents, and has renewed debate over the management and protection of government land in rapidly growing areas of the Surat district.
