BJP Calls INDIA Bloc Meeting “Lacklustre,” Says Opposition Trying To Stay Relevant

BJP dismisses INDIA bloc meeting, alleging opposition unity is weakening.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday described the recent INDIA bloc meeting as “lacklustre,” dismissing it as an attempt by the Opposition alliance to project unity amid internal differences and declining political relevance. The remarks were made during a press conference at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, where party spokesperson and Member of Parliament Sambit Patra addressed media queries on the Opposition’s coordinated strategy.

Patra said the INDIA bloc, which he characterised as largely inactive, was engaging in what he called political theatre to stay in the public discourse. He alleged that despite claims of unity, the alliance continues to struggle with internal disagreements and lacks a coherent political direction. According to him, the Opposition grouping is attempting to present a united front even as its constituent parties face coordination challenges.

The BJP spokesperson further claimed that the electorate has distanced itself from the Opposition coalition, arguing that public support for the alliance has weakened over time. He suggested that recent political developments indicate a loss of momentum for the INDIA bloc, particularly in the context of upcoming electoral cycles where parties are preparing for intensified competition.

Highlighting internal tensions within the alliance, Patra referred to past instances of public criticism among INDIA bloc leaders. He pointed to exchanges between West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as examples of disagreements within the coalition, suggesting that such incidents reflect deeper fractures in the Opposition’s unity.

The comments come in the aftermath of the INDIA bloc’s latest coordination meeting in New Delhi, where leaders discussed electoral strategy, parliamentary coordination, and shared concerns over governance issues. While Opposition leaders have projected unity and outlined joint action plans, the BJP has consistently sought to question the durability and coherence of the alliance, framing it as politically unstable.

As political activity intensifies ahead of upcoming elections, both the ruling party and Opposition alliances continue to sharpen their messaging, with the BJP emphasising governance achievements and the INDIA bloc focusing on coordination and collective resistance to the current government.
