PM Modi honors Sahibzades on Veer Bal Diwas, highlighting courage, sacrifice, and Guru Gobind Singh’s enduring teachings.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid heartfelt tribute to the Sahibzades on December 26, 2025, marking Veer Baal Diwas, a day dedicated to commemorating the extraordinary courage, conviction, and sacrifice of the young sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “Veer Baal Diwas is a day of reverence, dedicated to remembering the sacrifice of the brave Sahibzades. We recall the unshakeable faith of Mata Gujri Ji and the immortal teachings of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. This day is associated with courage, conviction, and righteousness. Their lives and ideals will continue to motivate people for generations.” The occasion honors Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji, who faced martyrdom at tender ages after refusing to convert under Mughal persecution, along with their grandmother Mata Gujri Ji, whose steadfast faith remains an enduring source of inspiration.
The Prime Minister participated in the national program to observe Veer Baal Diwas at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi around 12:15 PM, where he also addressed the gathering. The event was organized by the Government of India to honor the indomitable spirit of the Sahibzades and to educate citizens about their supreme sacrifice. The program included the presence of Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar (PMRBP) awardees, recognizing young achievers in various fields, thereby linking the legacy of courage with contemporary inspiration for the youth. The ceremony served as a solemn reminder of the values of righteousness, resilience, and faith that continue to guide the nation.
Veer Baal Diwas was officially instituted by Prime Minister Modi on January 9, 2022, coinciding with the Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. The decision was taken to annually observe December 26 as a day to commemorate the martyrdom of the Sahibzades, whose unwavering commitment to their principles in the face of extreme adversity has become a timeless symbol of bravery. Across the country, participative programs were organized in schools, child care institutions, Anganwadi centers, and other educational platforms, featuring storytelling sessions, recitations, poster-making, essay-writing competitions, and online activities on the MyGov and MyBharat portals.
