TN CM Stalin Condemns Attacks on Minorities During Christmas

Tamil Nadu CM condemns rising violence against minorities.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin expressed profound anguish over widespread reports of attacks on minority communities during Christmas celebrations across several states. He highlighted the irony of such incidents occurring while Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in festive events, stating that this contrast conveys a deeply troubling signal to the nation. Stalin emphasized that the genuine strength of a majority is measured by its ability to guarantee minorities a life free from fear and intimidation.

The Chief Minister pointed to specific locations including Jabalpur, Raipur, and other areas, drawing parallels with earlier unrest in Manipur, declaring such acts unacceptable to anyone committed to societal harmony. He cited data indicating a reported 74 percent increase in hate speech directed at minorities since the BJP-led central government took office, warning that this trend poses a serious threat to national unity and peace.

Stalin underscored the collective responsibility to decisively curb riotous elements that seek to fracture society along communal lines. He called for resolute enforcement against right-wing groups perpetrating violence in the name of the majority, framing this as an urgent shared duty essential for preserving India's pluralistic fabric.

In a separate statement, MDMK general secretary Vaiko vehemently condemned Hindutva extremist organizations for targeting churches and assaulting Christian community members in regions such as Chhattisgarh. He referenced recent vandalism of Christmas decorations in shopping malls and destruction of ornaments in Raipur, alongside gatherings chanting religious slogans outside churches in Uttar Pradesh and unaddressed complaints of assaults in Madhya Pradesh.

Vaiko demanded that concerned state governments adopt stringent measures against the perpetrators, advocating for uncompromising action to deter further incidents. These developments have intensified concerns over escalating communal tensions during the festive season, prompting calls for stronger safeguards to protect minority rights nationwide.
