In a significant push to address housing needs, Uttar Pradesh has sanctioned over 13 lakh houses for the poor, underprivileged, and destitute between 2022-23 and 2024-25, according to Rural Development Minister Vijay Laxmi Gautam. Speaking during the Question Hour of the state Assembly’s Monsoon Session on August 12, 2025, Gautam highlighted the state’s commitment to improving living conditions for marginalized communities through targeted welfare schemes.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, 10,44,876 houses have been approved, while the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana has facilitated the sanctioning of 2,62,594 additional homes. These initiatives reflect the government’s focus on providing affordable housing to those in need, ensuring inclusive development across rural and urban areas.
A comprehensive survey, covering 57.73 lakh people so far, is underway to identify eligible beneficiaries. Gautam assured that the process of allotting these houses will commence soon, marking a significant step toward uplifting the state’s most vulnerable populations.
