Uttar Pradesh Orders Uninterrupted Electricity Supply Amid Rising Summer Demand

Uttar Pradesh directs uninterrupted power supply amid rising heat and demand.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday directed the state energy department to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across both rural and urban regions amid rising temperatures and surging power demand. The Chief Minister stressed that maintaining a stable power supply during the ongoing extreme heatwave is a top priority for the state government.

During a review meeting attended by Energy Minister Arvind Kumar Sharma, Minister of State Kailash Singh Rajput, and senior officials from the Energy Department and DISCOMs, the Chief Minister emphasised the need to make the power distribution system more accountable and consumer-centric. He instructed officials to work with urgency and sensitivity to prevent disruptions during the peak summer season.

Adityanath directed authorities to strengthen the transmission and distribution network and ensure continuous monitoring to minimise technical faults. He also made it clear that negligence related to transformer failures, feeder disruptions, or delayed complaint resolution would not be tolerated, and accountability must be fixed at every operational level.

Officials informed the meeting that the state’s transmission infrastructure currently spans over 60,000 circuit kilometres, with a reported availability rate of 99.30 per cent and transmission losses reduced to around 3.2 per cent. The Chief Minister also reviewed rising electricity demand, which has increased significantly between mid-April and late May due to extreme heat conditions across the state.

He further instructed officials to personally inspect helpline and call centre operations to ensure effective complaint resolution and better service delivery. The Chief Minister also emphasised that consumers must be informed promptly in case of any power disruption, as transparency and communication are essential for building public trust.

The state government is also expanding its smart meter system, with over 89 lakh installations completed so far. Officials said billing reforms are being implemented, including a shift to postpaid billing cycles and improved digital communication through SMS and email. The Chief Minister reiterated that uninterrupted electricity supply is crucial not only for daily life but also for agriculture, industry, and overall economic activity in the state.
