UP Deputy CM Takes Dig at Gandhi Family
PM Modi’s ‘teaspoon’ outweighs Rahul’s ‘silver spoon’, Maurya asserted.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya launched a scathing attack on the Gandhi family on Friday, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s humble origins and “teaspoon” outweigh the “silver spoon” privilege of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The remarks, posted on X in Hindi, were in response to a viral video from Darbhanga, Bihar, where individuals allegedly used offensive language against Modi’s late mother, Heeraben, during Rahul Gandhi’s Voter Adhikar Yatra.
Maurya, a prominent OBC leader and former UP BJP president, accused Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Rahul Gandhi of harboring “hatred, disgust, and arrogance” toward Modi, whom he described as a thrice-elected leader from India’s largest backward class. “Modi believes in drawing a bigger line rather than erasing others’, which irritates the Gandhi trio,” Maurya said, referencing past insults like “merchant of death,” “lowly,” and “vote thief.” He claimed these were not just attacks on Modi but insults to the public that elected him, contrasting Modi’s rise from a tea vendor’s son with Rahul’s privileged background.
The BJP has pinned responsibility on Rahul Gandhi for the alleged remarks made during the yatra, launched on August 27 in Darbhanga alongside Priyanka and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav. The party vowed that Bihar’s voters would deliver a “befitting reply” to Congress’s “politics of abuses.” The controversy echoes prior BJP campaigns, like “Modi ka Parivar” in 2024, countering opposition jibes about Modi’s family. Maurya, who has criticized Rahul Gandhi’s OBC remarks in the past, reiterated that Congress disrespects backward communities, citing their failure to appoint SC/ST leaders to key posts.

The yatra, aimed at voter rights, comes amid heightened political tensions in Bihar, with the BJP leveraging the incident to rally OBC support ahead of the 2025 assembly elections. As the video fuels outrage, the Gandhi family has not yet responded, but the row risks escalating caste-based political narratives.
