UP, Bihar Leaders Back PM Modi's Call for Fuel Conservation and Austerity
PM Modi urged citizens to save fuel and reduce non-essential spending amid global economic uncertainty.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal urging citizens to conserve fuel, reduce non-essential spending, and support the economy amid global disruptions has received strong backing from political leaders in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, who described the message as timely and “meaningful” in the current economic context.
The Prime Minister made the remarks during a public meeting organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad, where he highlighted the need for collective responsibility in navigating global economic uncertainty. His appeal focused on reducing fuel consumption, limiting luxury spending, and adopting cost-saving measures to protect India’s foreign exchange reserves.
Uttar Pradesh Minister Kailash Singh Rajput praised the initiative, saying the Prime Minister’s message reflects strong leadership during a period of global instability. He said the appeal for responsible consumption is particularly relevant given current international conditions and emphasised that citizens should contribute to national economic resilience through small but meaningful actions.

Bihar Minister Ram Kripal Yadav also supported the call, describing it as consistent with earlier appeals made during the COVID-19 period. He noted that citizens had previously responded positively to similar messages and expressed confidence that people would once again cooperate in efforts to manage the economic impact of global challenges.
During his address, Prime Minister Modi stressed that rising global fuel prices and supply chain disruptions, particularly due to ongoing tensions in West Asia, have made it essential for India to adopt conservation measures. He urged citizens to prioritise public transport, car-pooling, and increased use of electric vehicles, while also encouraging reduced discretionary spending such as on gold and overseas travel.
The Prime Minister further stated that patriotism also involves responsible everyday choices during times of global uncertainty. He called on citizens to support efforts to reduce fuel consumption and conserve foreign exchange, adding that such collective discipline would help strengthen India’s economic stability in a volatile global environment.
