UP Administration Demolishes UK Preacher's Madrasa Over Unapproved Land Purchase
UP administration demolishes madrasa over illegal construction and unapproved land purchase by foreign preacher.
The Sant Kabir Nagar district administration on Sunday initiated a demolition drive against a building allegedly linked to UK-based Islamic preacher Maulana Shamsul Huda Khan, after authorities declared the structure illegal following court findings. The building, which was earlier being used as a madrasa, came under scrutiny after officials determined that it had been constructed without an approved building plan and in violation of local development regulations.
According to officials, a joint team of the district administration and police reached the Moti Bazaar area under Khalilabad tehsil early in the day, where bulldozers were deployed to begin dismantling the structure. The operation was carried out under heavy security presence, with authorities ensuring that the demolition proceeded without disruption. The action forms part of an ongoing enforcement drive against unauthorized constructions in the region.
Officials further stated that the investigation revealed multiple irregularities related to the property, including the alleged purchase of land by the foreign national without obtaining prior permission from the competent authority. They said that such approvals are mandatory under existing regulations, particularly in cases involving non-resident or foreign individuals acquiring property in India. This procedural lapse, combined with the absence of sanctioned building plans, led to the classification of the structure as unauthorized.

Authorities also confirmed that the demolition was undertaken after a court ruling declared the madrasa building illegal. Following judicial direction, the administration moved forward with enforcement action, emphasizing that compliance with land use and construction laws is essential, especially for institutions engaged in educational or religious activities. Officials maintained that no structure can operate outside the legal framework, regardless of its purpose or affiliation.
The district administration has indicated that further investigation will be conducted into the ownership records, funding sources, and operational background of the madrasa. Officials added that similar action may be taken against other unauthorized structures in the district as part of a broader campaign to enforce urban planning norms and ensure legal compliance across all properties.
