Two Killed, One Injured In Truck-Motorcycle Collision In Supaul
Truck hits motorcycle in Supaul, killing two; protests erupt.
Two people were killed and another was seriously injured after a speeding truck collided with a motorcycle in Bihar’s Supaul district on Saturday. The accident occurred near Anant Chowk on National Highway 27 (NH-27) under the Bhimpur police station limits, triggering tension in the area and a prolonged highway blockade by locals.
According to officials, the incident took place on the Murliganj branch canal bridge when an unidentified truck approached from behind and rammed into the motorcycle carrying three passengers. The impact of the collision was severe, throwing the riders off the vehicle and causing fatal injuries to two of them on the spot.
The deceased were identified as Saraswati Devi (60) and her grandson Ganesh Kumar (15), both residents of Bhura Pathra under the Triveniganj block. The third passenger, Kuldeep Kumar (20), sustained critical injuries in the crash and was rushed for treatment to the Narpatganj Community Health Centre, where he is currently undergoing medical care.

Preliminary information from police indicates that all three were travelling together on a single motorcycle and were returning home after attending a wedding ceremony in Maskan village in Araria district. As they were crossing the canal bridge near Anant Chowk, the truck struck their vehicle with considerable force before fleeing the scene immediately, officials said.
Following the accident, anger spread among local residents, who staged a protest by blocking NH-27 for nearly three to four hours. The blockade caused major disruption to traffic, with long queues of vehicles stretching several kilometres on both sides of the highway, leaving commuters stranded for hours.
Protesters also raised allegations of negligence against local authorities, claiming that Dial 112 emergency response personnel stationed nearby failed to respond promptly or take immediate steps to pursue the fleeing truck. Police later reached the spot, with Station House Officers from Bhimpur and Chhatapur police stations, along with senior officials, including the Supaul Headquarters Deputy Superintendent of Police, deployed to control the situation.
Circle Officer Rakesh Kumar and former RJD candidate Baijnath Mehta also engaged with the agitated crowd and helped restore calm after assurances were given regarding action in the case. Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination at Sadar Hospital, Supaul, and have initiated a formal investigation. Authorities also stated that compensation would be provided to the victims’ family as per government norms.
