Six Women Dead, Eight Injured In Bus-Van Collision On Gujarat Highway

Six women died and eight were injured after a bus hit a van on a Gujarat highway.

Six women lost their lives and eight others were injured in a tragic road accident after a private bus collided with a van on National Highway 48 in Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district on Wednesday, police said. The crash occurred on the Shamlaji–Himmatnagar stretch of the highway, a key route connecting northern Gujarat towns.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police A K Patel, the van was carrying a group of women from Modasa in Aravalli district when a speeding bus hit it from behind. The impact of the collision caused severe damage to the van, leading to multiple casualties at the scene. The exact cause of the crash is under investigation.

Police said the women in the van were part of a catering team engaged in social events. They were travelling from Modasa to Hunj village in Himmatnagar to attend a function when the accident took place. The sudden collision brought their journey to a tragic halt on the busy highway.

Six women passengers died on the spot, while seven other women and the van driver sustained injuries. Authorities said the injured were immediately shifted to Himmatnagar Civil Hospital for treatment. Medical officials at the hospital confirmed that the condition of two of the injured remains critical.

Dr Dhrupad Chauhan, a medical officer at the hospital, said emergency care was being provided to all admitted patients. The bodies of the deceased were sent to a government hospital for postmortem examination as part of standard procedure. Police have registered a case and are examining whether overspeeding or negligence led to the fatal collision.

Road accidents remain a persistent concern on highways in Gujarat, where heavy vehicular movement and high-speed traffic often lead to severe crashes. Authorities are expected to review the circumstances of the incident as part of the ongoing investigation.
