Two Killed as Rains Batter Rajasthan
Heavy rains kill two, flood Rajasthan's cities.
Torrential downpours battered Rajasthan, claiming two lives and submerging low-lying areas across Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, Kota, and Bhilwara districts, according to officials. The relentless rainfall triggered widespread disruption, with floodwaters inundating homes and paralyzing infrastructure in several regions.
In Sawai Madhopur, the Palli Par area of the old city saw numerous houses swamped as floodwaters surged into residential zones. The tehsil recorded a staggering 254 mm of rainfall in 24 hours, the highest in the state, as reported by the Meteorological Centre in Jaipur. The heavy downpour also caused a culvert collapse on National Highway-552, halting all vehicular movement and stranding commuters.
Bhilwara’s Bijolia area faced severe flooding after 170 mm of rain led to the overflow of the Panchanpura dam, with the Eru river swelling dangerously. In Kota, authorities opened three gates of the Kota Barrage to release 25,000 cusecs of water, but low-lying colonies in Kapren town of Bundi remained submerged, with rural connectivity severed due to rising water levels.

Tragically, the rains claimed two lives. In Ajmer, a man drowned while bathing in a dam during a birthday celebration with friends on Thursday night. In Jaipur’s Chaksu area, a couple on a motorcycle was swept away by the swollen Dhundh river. While locals rescued the husband, the wife was tragically carried away by the current, police confirmed.
The weather office issued an orange alert for Udaipur, Dungarpur, Banswara, and Pratapgarh, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall. Light to moderate showers are expected across eastern Rajasthan and parts of western districts, as the state braces for further challenges from the ongoing deluge.
