New Rs 1,507 Crore Kota-Bundi Airport to Transform Rajasthan’s Connectivity

Rs 1,507 Crore Kota-Bundi Airport transformative infrastructure project.

The Union Cabinet approved a transformative infrastructure project to establish a new greenfield airport in Kota-Bundi, Rajasthan, at an estimated cost of Rs 1,507 crore. Funded by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) through its internal accruals, the airport will be developed on 1,089 acres of land provided free of cost by the Rajasthan government.

With a capacity to handle 2 million passengers per annum, the project is expected to be completed within 24 months, marking a significant milestone in enhancing air connectivity to this education and industrial hub.

The airport, as announced by Information & Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, aims to bolster regional connectivity and catalyze economic development in Kota-Bundi and surrounding areas. Known for its coaching institutes and industrial activity, Kota stands to benefit from improved access, fostering tourism, trade, and investment.

The project aligns with India’s aviation growth, with the number of operational airports rising from 74 in 2014 to 162 in 2025, and passenger traffic surging from 16.8 crore to 41.2 crore annually over the same period, as highlighted by Vaishnaw.

This strategic investment underscores the government’s commitment to expanding aviation infrastructure to underserved regions, driving economic opportunities and accessibility. The Kota-Bundi airport is poised to integrate the region more seamlessly into India’s aviation network, supporting local industries, educational institutions, and tourism while contributing to the national goal of doubling air connectivity infrastructure.
