Tripura’s Ambitious Shakti Peethas Park to Elevate Spiritual Tourism
Replica of 51 Shakti Peethas unveiled
On July 13, 2025, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha laid the foundation stone for a Rs 98 crore project to create a replica of the 51 Shakti Peethas at Banduar in Gomati district, aiming to position Tripura as a global spiritual tourism hub. The initiative, backed by the Union Tourism Ministry, aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to develop world-class tourism sites, Saha said during the ceremony.
Spanning 15 acres, the Banduar park will feature replicas of the 51 sacred Shakti Peethas, scattered across India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, making it a unique destination for devotees unable to visit all sites. The project includes the world’s largest Nataraja statue, an interpretation center, a cafeteria, a sky bridge, and cottages to accommodate up to 7,000 pilgrims at once. Completion is expected within 18 months, with an invitation extended to PM Modi for the inauguration.
Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury emphasized the project’s potential to boost Tripura’s economy, create jobs, and preserve cultural heritage. Located just 4 km from the historic Tripura Sundari Temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, the serene Banduar village offers an ideal setting. The Asian Development Bank has also sanctioned Rs 18 crore for Kasbewari Kali Bari’s development, with additional funding proposed for Chaturdash Devta Temple.
