Tripura Boosts Organic Exports to 1,332 MT

Tripura has emerged as a leader in organic agriculture, exporting 1,332 metric tonnes of organic products over the past three years, announced Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath on July 9, 2025, at the state’s inaugural Organic Buyer-Seller Meet. The exported goods include high-value crops like scented rice, bird’s eye chilli, ginger, turmeric, and pineapple, reaching markets in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Guwahati, Oman, Dubai, and Dhaka.

Speaking at the event, Nath emphasized, “Organic agriculture is a future-ready solution to health, climate change, and soil degradation. Tripura is building a farm-to-fork ecosystem.” The state has developed over 25,000 hectares of certified organic land and established 53 Organic Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), certified by approved agencies. Key crops include Queen and Kew pineapples, aromatic rice (Harinarayan, Kalikhasa), black rice, scented lemon, sesame, and millet.

The minister highlighted specific export figures: 666 metric tonnes of pineapple, 574 metric tonnes of ginger, 52 metric tonnes of turmeric, 33 metric tonnes of scented rice, and 7 metric tonnes of bird’s eye chilli. India’s organic market is booming, with 7.3 million hectares registered under the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP), producing 6.3 million metric tonnes and exporting 2.61 lakh metric tonnes valued at Rs 4,007 crore.

Nath underscored the state’s commitment to sustainable farming, noting, “Tripura’s organic push is fostering trust, transparency, and global partnerships.” The Buyer-Seller Meet, organized by the Tripura State Organic Farming Development Agency, saw five MoUs/LoIs signed with buyers like GShoots Pvt. Ltd. and SR Spices Pvt. Ltd., boosting market linkages for farmers.
